As Angelina Jolie gave Saturday birth to a son and daughter at the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice (France) Brad Pitt was on her side. People confirmed that.

“The babies are doing well. The operation went just perfectly,” Dr. Michael Sussmann told PEOPLE Sunday. “Angelina is in very good spirits. Brad Pitt was at her side. He was there and all was well.”

Sussmann confirmed the birth of the twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline by Cesarean. The boy Knox Leon weighed 5.03 lbs and the girl Vivienne 5 lbs.

Including the twins who were born on Saturday, Angelina(33) and Brad(44) have six children.

“The mother and father are very, very happy,” Told Sussmann to people.

The Cesarean had to be moved foreward “for medical reasons” so the twins could be born in the best conditions, told the doctor to the Associated Press. He also said Jolie is expected to stay in the hospital for a few days.

Jolie checked in to the Fondation Lenval hospital on July 1 to await the birth of her twins. Since this spring her family lived in the south of France.

She told recently Entertainment Weekly that she was just surprised- not daunted- when she learned that she will have twins. “It did shock us, and we jumped to six [children] quickly,” she said. “But we like a challenge.”
